Why this matters

Useful skills are unevenly distributed and mostly locked behind either paid courses or knowing the right person. An hour of someone teaching you properly can save months of trial and error - and the person teaching usually gets more out of it than they expect. It also turns a routine hangout into something people remember.

How to do it

One friend hosts and picks a specific skill they actually have: investing basics, knitting, building a landing page, playing chess properly, making rings, cooking one dish really well.

You can do this at home, or at a pub or café if the skill travels. If you're somewhere public and feeling bold, see if strangers want to join in. Keep it fun and no-pressure - snacks, drinks, and time to catch up as well as learn.

What makes it work: - Pick something tangible with a result at the end. "How investing works" beats "personal finance". "Make one ring" beats "an introduction to jewellery". - Teach hands-on rather than talking at people. An hour of doing beats an hour of explaining. - Tell people in advance if they need to bring anything, and have spares for whoever forgets. - Don't let it turn into the host doing everything while people watch.

Rotate hosts next time so everyone gets a turn teaching. You'll usually find that everyone has something worth sharing, and it turns into a regular thing without anyone having to organise it properly.
