About

I built CasuallyGenerous because I kept noticing the same gap. Being generous usually means one of two things: donating money or volunteering your time in a structured way. Both are genuinely great, and I'd encourage you to do both whenever you can. But neither covers everything. You can't donate your way into being there for your neighbours, or into being ready to help someone in an emergency. And if what you're in the mood for is something spontaneous, or something that fits into a hike or a pizza night rather than a formal commitment, that space is where some of the magic happens. This is an attempt to make it easier to unlock it.

Why this exists

The idea is inspired by Chris Anderson's Infectious Generosity — the argument that generosity spreads fastest when it's easy to copy, genuinely enjoyable, and doesn't ask for a big sacrifice up front. I'd recommend it to everyone. This is an attempt to inspire and share knowledge and experiences on how we can a little more generous every day and what small actions can go a long way.

What this isn't

This deliberately isn't a volunteering platform, and it isn't a donation platform. Both of those are well served already and are just a Google Search away. Don’t get me wrong: I am a huge proponent of volunteering and giving to charity. Whatever you can give, however you can help. Please do check out those other resources. What I am trying to serve here is the space in between: the free, thoughtful, often-overlooked things you can do with your own time, skills and attention, without routing them through an organisation or a payment. That's the gap this is attempting to sit in.

Who built this

CasuallyGenerous is a small solo side project built by myself, Hanns Niedermark. I am mid-career-change from data and AI work toward climate, conservation and social impact. I am figuring a lot of this out the same way most people reading this are: one small thing at a time. Importantly, this is a fun project I am building for everyone else, as much as myself. I have no ambition to turn this into a business or earn any money from this. This is entirely for knowledge sharing and to inspire each other to do a little more.
